Hello!

I am Lalá, a self‑taught, London‑based artist specialising in abstract and semi‑abstract contemporary art. My connection to painting began early — as far back as I can remember — when my mother first took me to art classes at the age of five. That early spark never faded, even as life carried me in many other directions. Returning to painting as an adult felt both natural and inevitable.

I was born and raised in Baku, Azerbaijan, surrounded by the colours, textures, and contrasts of a region where ancient traditions meet rapid modern change. That environment left a deep imprint on me: the warmth of people, the richness of culture, and the ever‑present inspiration found in landscapes, stories, and craftsmanship. My life later took me far from home, first to Scotland and then to England, on a journey shaped by a demanding and rewarding professional career in the global energy industry — a career that taught me resilience, adaptability, and the ability to thrive in constantly changing environments. These experiences across countries, climates, and cultures continue to influence my work today, both consciously and instinctively.

For many years, my career in the energy sector took centre stage, carrying me from the North Sea to large multinational projects and diverse professional communities. While I built my expertise, led teams, and navigated complex technical landscapes, art remained my quiet refuge — the place I returned to when I needed grounding, expression, or simply a moment of truth. Moving countries — from Azerbaijan to Scotland, and later to England — expanded not only my worldview but also my creative vocabulary, enriching the emotional language I now translate onto canvas. Scotland, where I lived for many years, holds a special place in my heart — its atmosphere, colours, and quiet strength continue to inspire the moods and palettes within my paintings. England, my current home, has given me a new creative grounding and a renewed commitment to my practice.

My work today is intuitive and expressive, guided by emotion rather than a fixed plan. Each piece evolves through an instinctive, meditative process — a dialogue between colour, movement, and layered texture. I let the painting grow organically, allowing spontaneity to lead the way while searching for a balance that feels both grounded and alive. I aim to create pieces that sit harmoniously within modern interiors yet bring warmth, depth, and dynamic energy into a space.

Returning fully to art has been a homecoming. It is the space where all the layers of my life — my roots in Azerbaijan, years spent in the energy industry, as environmental professional, the experience of living in different countries, and my love for colour and movement — merge into one. Through my paintings, I strive to offer moments of emotion, reflection, and discovery.

My purpose is simple: to create art that brings joy, presence, and a sense of connection— whether through existing works, commissioned pieces, or meaningful new collaborations.
